Upper left: Age 36 after my 1st child - overweight and tired. Upper right: At age 40 after 2 kids. This picture was for my 40th birthday. Just one year prior we made that decision to change. Lower: Today at age 50. You can see not only did I transform me but I transformed my husband. I also always wanted to have long hair and not Mom hair so I transformed that too in order to become the person I wanted to be. It started with that one decision after watching a television show and realizing I had the power to decide! Sure we may have gain a few pounds here but we knew how to control it and get back to our goals and we never went back and have been happy with that decision ever since.

Just decide! Decide to make a change! Your mind is a very powerful tool. More powerful than you give it credit. Once you make a decision, no matter how small it may seem, it can turn your life around.

Our children were still very young when my husband and I were watching that show where people won lots of money for losing the most weight. I watched those people transfer before my eyes and yes they were working hard but they were doing it! It was actually happening for them.

Up until that point, I just assumed that now that I was a Mom and had kids that I wouldn't be able to make a change in my body. I thought well this is what I look like now. I am no longer thin, no longer sexy. I will just have a Mom body the rest of my life.

After seeing that show, I was starting to realize that I wasn't trapped in this body. I could do anything that I wanted as long as I was willing to work hard and that I believed it was possible.

My husband and I made the decision together and we did lose weight, got in shape and have never looked back!

Remember when you decided to enroll in college, or accept that first job offer, or maybe to say yes to that wedding proposal ... well those were big decisions that changed your life forever.

Small decisions can be equally as powerful if you let them. Decide to get more sleep, decide to start an exercise routine or choose healthier foods.

So often we believe that decisions are out of our control. Why? Really? Why can't you change? You have free will. Sure you may be married or have a family that depends on you but you are still your own person! Many times, we don't trust in our ability to take charge of the situation. We let others decide for us like a spouse that influences us to make choices that aren't right for us. Sometimes friends who don't want to be the only one getting the wings or drinking on girls night out. Maybe they can do it without affecting their weight or their sleep but that doesn't work for you. You feel awful after making those decisions and then you start to spiral out of control. You want to choose what is best for you but you are easily influenced.

You will have to decide for yourself and maybe you even have to pass on GNO so that you can stick to your goals. It won't be forever you will join in again but for now you have to put yourself first and avoid bad decisions. You have the option to make the plans and instead of GNO make it a luncheon where everyone feels less likely to drink or eat poorly. This way you stay connected without putting yourself in a situation where you might not be able to control yourself.

Many times, we feel trapped in our past decisions and don't allow ourselves to start each day brand new. Each new day is a gift and it is another chance to make the best possible decisions for YOU.

What will you decide today? What small decision will change the rest of your life!
